The Perfect Storm for a Winona Disaster
By Steve Blue Miller Felpax CEO

Winona is in the middle of the worst economic crisis of our lifetime. The worsening economy has plunged hundreds of Winonans into unemployment. The State Government has proposed to slash funding for everything from social services to pubic safety. The Federal Government is likely to raise taxes which will cut the spending power of Winonans that still have jobs-which will leave even less money available for spending in our community-which will lead to even more unemployment. Charitable giving is at an all time low, when the need is at an all time high. If that isn’t a perfect storm for a Winona disaster-I don’t know what is.
This storm threatens the very fabric of our community-unless we do something about it. Let’s not let this storm turn into a full-fledged tsunami. If you love this town as I do, I call upon you to do what I have done-contribute to the Winona Community Foundation (WCF).
WCF provides funds for everything from human services and education to athletics and the arts. It improves the lives of your neighbors and friends every day. And it’s done that for 21 years. But, now, more than ever, Winona needs WCF. And now, more than ever, WCF needs you. You can change a life for a surprisingly small amount of money. You can change the course of this impending disaster with just a few dollars. But now is the time to act. For more information, contact WCF at 507-454-6511.
