Flood Update
By specially established provisions, WCF administered the Emergency Assistance Fund that allowed for direct assistance to individuals through partner agencies in Houston, Fillmore and Winona Counties. We are very pleased that this fund was in place for such a regional crisis and the WCF Board has overseen this with flexibility and immediate response. For example, assistance from this fund was able to be put towards debt cards for Winona Volunteer Services to hand out to victims the past couple of days and increased access to these funds with an immediate response has been enacted.
WCF is now partnering with many area leaders and organizations who are working toward a collaborative approach of responding to the unmet needs of our community members affected by the flood.
Currently the disaster is in the mid-term assistance phase which has us waiting for government support to be processed prior to the next stage when further assessment can be addressed. After the October 22nd deadline for FEMA and Small Business Administration (SBA) registration, we will shift to long-term recovery.
