Winona Area Public schools would like to offer recess before lunch at Jefferson and WK elementary schools for the 2010/2011 year. There is extensive research on the benefits of recess before lunch. Some of the benefits include:
Less food waste
Better lunch room behavior
Fewer classroom discipline problems
Improved classroom performance.

In order to offer this for students, hand washing stations will need to be purchased and installed. The estimated cost for this is $10,000.00 or about $5,000 at each school. Currently there are not funds in the district capitol budget to cover this cost.
In collaboration with the Winona County Historical Society, TdM seeks funding to produce an original historical play in October, 2010 in conjunction with the Woodlawn Cemetery Discovery Walk. The work is a series of mostly true short stories, told in verse and song, featuring local actors and musicians and depicting the lives of early immigrants and laborers who ended up in Potters’ Field. Budget is $8,500.00. To be presented on two evenings at the Historic Masonic Theater. This is a part of Winona’s history that is largely unknown. Work must start in early August, so TdM would be grateful for assistance as soon as possible!
